Devoted to Prayer
Devoted to Prayer
All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer. Acts 1:14
Every church prays, but not every church is devoted to prayer.
A church that prays, prays sporadically when there are problems, asking God to bless what they’re doing. A church devoted to prayer prays consistently when there are opportunities and does what God is blessing. A church that prays shows the community what they can do; a church devoted to prayer shows the community what God can do.
The early church was devoted to prayer. The word “devoted” is the strongest word in the Greek language for commitment, proskartereo. It means “to lock on and refuse to let go.” Like a heat-seeking missile locks on and refuses to veer off course until it hits the heat source, they were devoted. For the early church, the manifest presence of Christ was the heat source, and they refused to veer off course until they hit the target. More than simply being devoted to prayer, they were devoted to the Presence. They were not only devoted to prayer before Pentecost (Acts 1:14), they were equally devoted to prayer after Pentecost (Acts 2:42).
Are you devoted to prayer—to the presence? Is your church?
Father God, Your manifest presence is my highest desire. I wholeheartedly devote myself to encounter Your presence daily, to live in Your presence, to attract and to sustain Your presence, and to extend Your presence to others. I set myself apart to be a person of Your presence as I devote myself to prayer.
Please PRAY!
