With or Without Fire

With or Without Fire

A smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.  On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram. Genesis 15:17-18

Abraham  met God in the fire. In a vision God showed Abraham a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch. On that day He sealed the covenant He had made with Abraham with fire. Never again would Abraham doubt his calling. This was certainly not the first time God had spoken to Abraham, nor would it be the last. We have on record at least twenty separate encounters Abraham had with the manifest presence of God (Genesis 12:1,7,17; 13:14, 15:1,5,7,9,13; 17:1,3,9,15,19; 18:1,13,20,26,28; 21:12; 28:2,11). This was, however,  the first and only time God would speak to Abraham out of actual fire.

God chooses to manifests His presence to you in many and various ways. Keep in mind, however, the importance is not the presence of fire, but the presence of God. Abraham learned to follow the manifest presence of God long before he ever encountered the actual fire. This is an essential lesson for all of us. With or without fire, we want to encounter, pursue, and follow the manifest presence of Christ.

Father God, today, with or without actual fire, I want to live in Your manifest presence. Show Yourself tangibly to me today in any way you choose.
