Deity of Christ

Deity of Christ

Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was I, I AM. John 5:58

The deity of Christ is not simply another plank in our doctrinal statement, it is a life-giving reality you want to declare with confidence when you pray.

When Jesus was being grilled by the religious leaders of his day, the leaders tried to prove that Jesus was inferior to Abraham. The Jews accused Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” (John 8:47). It didn’t take long for Jesus to turn the tables.

Jesus replied, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was I, I AM.” Jesus used the emphatic Greek declaration, ‘ego eimi’, or ‘I, I Am’. He identified Himself not only as greater than Abraham, but equal with Yahweh, Jehovah God.

The Jews knew immediately what He was saying, and they were furious. “So they picked up stones to throw at Him” (John 8:59).

When you pray, use with confidence the deity of Christ. It is in the Name of God, the Son that we approach God, the Father.

Father God, today I approach Your throne in confidence in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
