The Faith Champion

The Faith Champion

"Oh you of little faith."  Matthew 6:30

God wants to grow your faith.

During Jesus’ discipleship ministry, He did not rebuke His disciples often. In fact, there is only one reason for which He ever rebuked His disciples—because of their unbelief. He rebuked them three times for being, “an unbelieving, sinful generation.” (Matthew 17:17, Mark 9:19, Luke 9:41) He rebuked them six times for their, “little faith.” (See Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:8, 17:17, Luke 12:28).

Technology may have changed since the first century, but human nature has not. It is only reasonable to assume that Jesus is just as concerned about our faith-level as He was over the faith-level of His first disciples.

Have you ever heard Jesus rebuke you for your unbelief? When was the last time you heard God rebuke you for your unbelief? If it has been awhile, are you sure you’re listening? From the beginning of Jesus’ earthly discipleship ministry, through to the end, He was calling for faith in His disciples. He is still looking for faith in you and me today.

Jesus is the faith-champion who wants to take our little faith and grow it. When He rebukes you, it is not to destroy you, but to restore and develop you.

If you have not repented of unbelief recently, today might be a good day to make up for lost time.

Father God, forgive me for having a sinful, unbelieving heart. Forgive me for being a person of little faith. Grow my faith today, in Jesus’ Name.
