Mustard Seed Faith

Mustard Seed Faith

"If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed. . ." Matthew 17:20

The impact of your prayers does not depend on the size of your faith, but on the size of your God.

Hudson Taylor was unquestionably a man of great faith. During his lifetime, he recorded thousands of specific answers to prayer. He was known to pray-in hundreds of thousands of dollars at just the right time from unknown sources. It was his policy to never mention a financial need publically; he took all of his financial needs directly to the throne of God in prayer. With God as his Provider, he never went hungry.

When people asked Hudson Taylor about his faith, he felt awkward, not wanting to draw attention to himself. One day a young person said to him, “Hudson Taylor, how did you  become a man of such great faith?” Taylor replied, “Oh no, I am not a man of great faith. I have but little faith, but what faith I have, I put in a great God.”

This is the secret of the mustard seed. You don’t need to pretend to have large faith or perfect faith. When you  pray today, don’t try to fake your faith. You don’t need to dress it up to make it seem better than it is. You don’t need to pump it up to make it seem bigger than it is. The effectiveness of your prayers does not depend on the size of your faith, but on the size of your God. He is the one who works, not you. Never put your faith in your faith; put your faith in your God.

Father God, today I repent of putting more emphasis on what I do when I pray than what You do. I put my mustard seed faith in You today.
