Conquering Discouragement

 Conquering Discouragement

The God of all encouragement. 2 Corinthians 1:3 NIV ‘84

If you have discouragement, you did not get it from God. God is the God of all encouragement. Most translations of 2 Corinthians 1:3 read, “The God of all comfort.” The word translated “comfort” is the Greek word parakaleo, which means, “encouragement.” God is the God of all encouragement.

Armin Gesswein used to say, “Discouragement is a sin; it won’t send you to hell, but it will make you feel like you are living there.”

Armin Gesswein used to have three rules regarding discouragement—recognize it, refuse it, and replace it. Good advice.

In your own life, your family, your workplace, discouragement is destructive. It will keep you from hearing God’s voice. It will make you unuseful. Discouragement is not from God.

Take time right now to recognize any discouragement in your heart, refuse it, and replace it with the spirit of encouragement.

Father God, I repent. I recognize my discouragement, and I renounce it, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I receive from You right now Your Holy Spirit of encouragement, in Jesus’ Name.
