Encountering Victory

Encountering Victory

Lead us…Deliver us…
Matthew 6:19

Humility attracts the presence of God the way a low pressure zone attracts a storm. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true—pride repels the presence of God the way a high atmospheric pressure will repel a storm center. It is no wonder God says that He opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble (see James 4:6).

There are two battlegrounds that should keep us humble enough everyday to encounter the manifest presence of Christ—our battle with sin and our battle with Satan. Where do we get the idea that we don’t need to bring our battle lines to God? The answer is easy—it’s rooted in our pride. Pride always distorts an accurate view of reality, and nowhere is that more true than in prayer.

In many ways, the Lord’s prayer builds to a great climax when we cry out to God for His victory over sin and over Satan—“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” These are prayers that rise out of true humility and always attract the power of Christ.

If you want to encounter Christ in prayer today, then humble yourself, cry out in desperation, and tell Him just how much you need Him in order to win your battle against sin and the devil.

Loving Father, I humble myself and openly admit that in my own strength I will fail miserably today at resisting temptation and defeating the devil. Please help me. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I take you as my Leader and Deliverer.
