Mouth On Fire

Mouth on Fire

Open your mouth, and I will fill it. Psalm 81:10

On this day, January 14, in the year of our Lord 1739, George Whitfield, one of the greatest preachers who ever lived, was ordained. He spent the day before his ordination in prayer and fasting, praying late into the evening. On the Sunday morning of his ordination, he rose early and prayed, “When I went up to the altar, I could think of nothing but Samuel standing as a little child before the Lord… when the Bishop laid his hand upon my head, my heart was melted down, and I offered my whole spirit, soul, and body in the service of God’s sanctuary! I read the gospel, at the Bishop’s command, with power.” From that day forward, George Whitfield ministered with unusual anointing.

By the age of only twenty-two years, George Whitfield was a household name. He was a man of prayer, compassion, and genuine humility. He was gifted with an unusual voice and could preach to crowds of up to fifty to sixty thousand people at one time in the open air without the use of a microphone.

God’s anointing is for you today, to empower you to fulfill your calling too.

Father God, today, anoint the mouth of my pastor with the fire of Your presence, that when he opens his mouth, You will fill it.
