Encountering Christ in His Prayer

Encountering Christ in His Prayer

Our Father in heaven… Matthew 6:9

Every part of the Lord’s prayer pattern is intended to be Christ-encountering. As we will discover over the next seven days, when Jesus gave His prayer pattern, He was not providing us with a religious instrument. He was imparting to us a means of encountering the manifest presence of Christ every day.

The Lord’s prayer begins with relationship—our Father in heaven. These are not religious words; they are relational. They bring us face to face with our Father and His lavish love. This prayer strategically takes us to the headwaters of all prayer. It is no wonder that Martin Luther said of the Lord’s prayer, “Like an infant returning to its mother’s breast for milk, I frequently return to the Lord’s prayer for nourishment.”

As you use the Lord’s prayer today as a Christ-encountering pattern, make sure you linger long enough in the Father’s love and receive all He has for you. You do not want to miss out on one blessing the Father has waiting for you.

Father God, I sit under Your blessing and receive a fresh infusion of Your love for me today. Father, Father, Father, I love you. I love lingering in your love.
