On this day, August 1, in the Year of our Lord 1489, the manifest presence of Christ fell on San Marco, Italy. Gerome Savonarola preached his first sermon and people responded with heartfelt enthusiasm. The atmosphere was electric. Savonarola came to be known by many as the greatest revival leader of the fifteenth century. While some viewed him as a fanatic, others viewed him as a preacher of the truth who led his people to encounter Christ. Some estimate that as many as fifteen thousand boys, girls and young adults came to Christ as a result of this revival. Glory to Christ!
