Family Revival

Family Revival

Acts 10:1-48

I suggest that before reading this devotional, you take time to read the entirety of Acts 10. I assure you that it will be a great blessing to you, because we can learn many things from Cornelius and his family.

Again, I would just like to highlight three things that allowed this entire family to experience a spiritual revival so that we too can experience family revival.
1. Humility (Acts 10:1-5): Cornelius is a man with military rank and did not belong to the Jewish people, yet, he humbled himself daily in prayer to the God he did not yet fully know. His way of speaking with the angel also denotes his humility: “What is it, Lord?” He also demonstrated humility when he received Peter into his house (v. 25). Furthermore, he shows his humility by allowing himself to be taught by others who knew more than him (v.33).

2. Total Obedience (Acts 10:7-8): As soon as Cornelius receives the angel's instructions, he immediately gives orders to his servants to send for Peter and wait for him to arrive to hear what needed to be done. What strikes me about Cornelius is that he is not selfish, but rather demonstrates his love for his family and friends, takes his position as head of the household, and invites all of them to listen to everything Peter had to say (v. 24). If we desire family revival, we must gather in the Presence of the Lord (v. 33) to hear His voice, but it all begins with our daily prayers for each member of our family.

3. Filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:44): I have no doubt that as we humble ourselves in prayer daily for our families and gather them into God’s presence to hear His voice and obey Him, the result will always be the same: a Cornelius-like family revival.

Heavenly Father, help me to humble myself daily in prayer to intercede for my family. Give me a heart obedient to your voice so that my entire family may experience the revival that we so long for. I ask you for this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
