The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost is the model of all the great revivals in history, and Acts 1:1-14 tells us key components about revival.

In Acts 1:14 we see three other key components preparing the way for revival. It says, “All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together." First, the word of God says "all these" were there. All the believers joined together in a group to pray and intercede. This was according to Jesus’ promise, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20). Second, there was unity of "one accord." The Greek word translated "one accord" means "one flow, one passion, one burning flame of desire." This was according to Jesus’ promise, "If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven" (Matthew 18:19). Then, third, they were "devoting themselves to prayer." This was intentional, steadfast, persevering prayer. This was according to what Jesus taught them, “And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1).

In her account of the historic revival in 1904-1905 in Wales, “Awakening in Wales,” Jessie Penn-Lewis tells of the numerous prayer meetings that sprang up in the churches that preceded that mighty outpouring. Many people know that the person God used during that revival was Evan Roberts. Just as God used Peter on the Day of Pentecost, so he used Evan Roberts. But many don’t know that just as there was a devoted, united, and persevering prayer group pleading the promise in Acts, so there were believers in numerous churches in Wales gathering together in unity with persevering prayer that prepared the way for one of the greatest revivals in history.
