Repent, Believe, and Proclaim

Repent, Believe, and Proclaim
Rebecca Holcomb

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:14-15 (emphasis added).

Jesus will always start a revival with the words repent and believe. The word repent is metanoeō which Strong's Concordance translates as “to change one’s mind.”

Jesus is calling us from unbelief to a place of belief. We often have knowledge without belief. When I was young, I knew God loved me. It had been taught to me from my infancy. But, due to some traumatic events, that truth got buried in unbelief. I had picked up the lie that shame spoke over me which proclaimed that I was unlovable. I knew the truth, but it made no difference in my life. Science states that when you hear yourself saying something, whether true or false, you will begin to believe it. Every time you repeat something out loud, you believe it more. I needed to repent, to change the way I thought about myself and God. I needed to quit focusing on my failures and proclaim God’s victory in my life. I needed to proclaim the truth that, “Jesus loves me, He chose me and loves me with everlasting, unconditional love. He gave his own son for me, and it is enough.”

Lord, I repent from the lies I have believed. Help me to believe the full gospel of Christ and receive his deliverance of every lie I have believed. I proclaim to myself that I am loved as Jesus is loved by my Father. I proclaim I have been set free from sin and death and that same salvation is free to any who will repent. I proclaim that today is the day of salvation and deliverance. I believe I have received everything I need for life and godliness.
