“I will”

“I will”

The cure for our lukewarm hearts is the personal reviving presence of Jesus. He is, after all, Emmanuel, God with us. In fact, he promises His reviving presence to those who will open the door and let him in. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he will eat with me.” Every time Jesus says, "I will", it’s a promise, and this is one of the greatest "I will" promises Jesus ever made. And guess who he made it too? To a lukewarm Laodicean church in desperate need of revival. He is promising the return of His manifest reviving presence, and that is the heart of revival. However, this promise is conditional—“If anyone hears my voice and opens the door…”

The first condition is hearing. Yes, it is possible to hear Jesus speaking, and yet harden your heart to him, locking him out. In Hebrews 3:7-8 there is a warning: "Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, 'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness...'"

The second condition is opening. We must take action, and not only hear Jesus, but be obedient to Jesus. We allow his presence to point out the things in us that need reviving. Perhaps we’ve become indifferent to the media we consume, and it has affected our mindset that’s now in need of renewal.

Jesus is initiating the process and right now He is the one activating faith to take a sledgehammer to lukewarmness and welcome his reviving presence. He is calling us today to hear him and to respond by opening the door and receiving His manifest presence!

Jesus, I hear you speaking right now through this word. I obediently and willingly open the door to your reviving presence. Show me my lukewarmness. Holy Spirit, I receive your power to confront these areas and to throw off time wasters and dead weight in order to dwell more intimately at the table of fellowship with Jesus.
