Rend Your Hearts

Rend Your Hearts

“And rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.” Joel 2:13

When God calls you to radical obedience, he first gives you a radical promise.

The call to rend your hearts and not your garments, is a radical call. It’s a call to tear your hard hearts right down the middle and hold nothing back in your relationship with him.

This radical call is based on the radical promise that he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. This description of God’s character is his promise to you.
Remember every virtue of God is a promise of God, and all his virtues are unchanging. You do not need to be afraid of God’s response. No matter how much sin and toxic waste you have accumulated in your closet, God’s love is unflinching. You won’t embarrass him, so you don’t need to fear rejection.

Father God, I rend my heart today before you because I want to go deep with you and I want you to go deep in me. It is your grace, mercy, and steadfast love that leads me to this love covenant with you.
